Subject for this blog:
Below are the three subjects which I could come up by reading Kate Norquay’s blog:
- Perception of your friends and family, working at McDonald’s if you are a white teenage girl or a boy.
- It is embarrassing to work at McDonald’s, because you are better than that- Friends and family.
- Being stereotyped and ridiculed for working at McDonald's- by almost everyone who doesn’t work at McDonald's
Focus of this blog:
In this blog, Kate is trying to make us understand how people always try to degrade you based on your work profile. Their perceptions have some effect on you that you almost start having negative thoughts about your Job. However, if you really look at it the people she works with in McDonald’s are much more accomplished in their respective fields than she is- irrespective of their disabilities, racial diversity and language barriers. This made her change her mind about her Job and really starts feeling proud about the job and the people she is working with which I think is the main take away from this blog.
This world is filled with nay-Sayers, not getting influenced by them and doing what you do best is the key to success- this is exactly how I felt after reading this blog. More power to Kate.
Impact of this blog:
The thing which stood out the most to me in this blog is reading about the people who Kate used to work with at McDonald’s and how they were the backbone of that place. There were people with disabilities, people who weren’t conventionally attractive, people who couldn’t speak much English, young teenagers and a lot racial diversity. But all these people were excellent when it came to be handling their respective tasks at McDonald’s. So instead of feeling dismayed about the work place and job profile though being ridiculed by her friends and family, Kate is trying to tell us how proud she was working at a place where they encouraged people from different backgrounds and ethnicity to work there and bring out the best in each of them.
By reading this blog, I have grown to respect my current Job profile which is of a cashier at one of the shopper’s drug mart outlet and also the people who work with me there.
