General Education helps strengthening the higher education system which is evidently demonstrated in various articles.

In the ‘Importance of Understanding the General Education’, Tongam (2014) states that the system of Modern education has produced reliable scientist and technocrats but has not spawned graduates with the integrity of mature personalities. He feels General Education is the implementation of the concept as a reaction to the tendency of modern society in idolizing the products of technology and tend to ignore human values due to the product of modern secular education system. Tongam also believes that GE aims to cultivate and create mature understanding in the purpose of life according to the nature of science of all time. In conclusion, Tongam states that GE programs must be maintained in the curriculum of higher education (universities), but need to be adjusted in accordance with times.

Though the above article is five years old, it relates to the current education system and explains how General Education is important in cultivating the students and improving their attitude towards life. Tongam as an Associate professor of Economics Faculty, University of HKBP Nommensen (Scholar.google.com), his experience, profession, research and publication demonstrates his credibility as an author to this article and his views on the importance of General Education in modern education system.

In the ‘The Value of General Education’, Austin explains how and why General education is important overall development of a student. He explains how General education has helped him personally to become a better citizen, employee, spouse and a parent. Austin states the importance of having scientists, lawyers, medical professionals, businesspeople, educators, law enforcement professional and others who have cultivated the skills of critical thinking are familiar with some of the most important elements of human thought. He also mentions the quote by the CEO of Cellcom, the leading cell phone provider in Israel, “The knowledge I use as CEO can be acquired in two weeks...The main thing a student needs to be taught is how to study and analyze things (including) history and philosophy" (Smith, 2011, para 3) which reinforces the fact that the integration of general education course in the modern education system is important for a promising future.

While the article 8 is years old, it highlights the importance of General education and its relevance to the modern society and its education system. Austin as a professor of philosophy at Eastern Kentucky University has published numerous books and journal articles related to ethics, philosophy of religion, family and sport (Psychologytoday.com) proves his credibility as an author to this article.

In the blog ‘Why General Education Class Are More Important Thank You Think’, Silvers explains how General education classes provide background and core skills which the students can later use in their specialty. She explains how these classes help us in structuring and organizing our thoughts despite our lack of interest in humanities. Silvers also states the importance of writing skills in nearly every profession, be it type up notes, letters or reports, improving our writing ability can benefit our careers. She concludes this blog by explaining how a broader skillset keeps us well-rounded and discipline us for the rigors of more challenging specialized coursework as every class in the General education course is designed to help us on our educational journey.

This blog is from a university website- Herzing university which is read by students daily and is kept active on their website. Silvers has a 10 years’ experience in online education field and has helped universities to develop their curriculum (Linkedin.com). She has been with Herzing University for over five years (herzing.edu) which proves her credibility as an author to this blog.
